RE

RE is integral in our curriculum. Each lesson, we immerse pupils in exploring spirituality through the ‘Religious Education Directory’ programme. As part of our engaging learning journey, we capture creativity and imagination with a range of activities, such as discussions, drama, art projects and poetry. The core aim of every lesson is to encourage a deep understanding of faith within our children.

The ‘Religious Education Directory’ guides teachers and pupils through each of the six strands of learning - each one lasting for one half term. Each strand has a core theme which is explored though scripture and the liturgical practices of the Catholic Church. There is a strong focus on spiritual and moral growth, by linking, comparing and interpreting the message of significant biblical narratives.

We recognise the rich diversity within our school community and embrace the opportunity to explore the links between Catholicism and other world faiths. In the branch ‘Dialogue and Encounter’, pupils explore and appreciate world religions such as Judaism and Islam. Through this, we cultivate mutual understanding and respect, enabling pupils participate in respectful discussion with those who hold different religious views to their own.

Weekly assemblies and collective worship are central in our school. As a school we celebrate mass at significant points in the year, such as Welcome Mass and Harvest Mass. These masses, acts of worship and celebrations of the word provide moments of reflection to further develop our individual faith.

Islam Multifaith Day

In the Autumn term we were visited by Imran, who spoke to us about his faith as a Muslim. We had a whole-school assembly to begin the day, followed by individual class workshops. Imran brought with his lots of artefacts to share with us. The children had the opportunity to ask questions, sit on prayer mats and eat dates.

Year 2 Church Visit

In October, Year 2 visited the church as part of their learning about Baptism. Father Patrick conducted a Baptism, with Mr Edge playing the hymns.

Year 5 Story Sticks

Year 5 created a story stick to retell the Parable of the Good Samaritan, choosing the three most significant moments from the story. Then, we gathered around a candle to reflect on the message of the parable.

Hinduism Multifaith Day

In March, we were visited by Sanita who spoke to us about Hinduism. She shared the story of Rama and Sita with the whole school in assembly, using actions and objects to tell the story. Each class spent the day learning about Hinduism - through art, stories, music and dance.

Year 3 VE Day Prayers

For VE day, we linked our RE learning with History to create cross-curricular prayers in memory of the soldiers present at VE day.
