History

The history curriculum in the UK aims to support children in their understanding of their own local history. By exploring where they live, children can feel connected to their community’s history. At the same time, history develops their understanding when learning about key events which have happened in the past within different areas in Britain and the wider world.

Our history curriculum focusses on thinking skills, encouraging students to ask meaningful questions and look closely at historical artefacts and historical areas of interest. They conduct activities such as taking part in historical investigations, answering enquiry questions and analysing historical items from the past, which helps them develop their research skills, oracy, and collaborative working. They also practice the use of historical enquiry skills such as; change and continuity, chronology, use of evidence and historical significance.

By looking at history from different angles, students learn more about how people lived in different places and in different times.

Our primary history curriculum engages children and teaches them to be thoughtful citizens. By learning about the past, children understand more about how the world has changed over time.

As part of their History Year 3 visited their local library. They learnt about animals which were alive during the Stone Age and designed their very own Stone Age cave art.
