PE
Our goal is for every child to develop their physical abilities through mastering fundamental movements, improving balance, agility, and coordination. We want all children to be able to engage in physical activity for extended periods and lead healthy, active lifestyles. To support this, we collaborate with Rotherham United Football Club to offer engaging physical activities, ensuring all students have the opportunity to participate in external competitions within our local authority and school network.
Physical Education (P.E.) is a key component of our school curriculum. We follow the Get Set 4 PE scheme of work, which teachers adapt to meet the needs of our students. P.E. is taught twice a week across all year groups, with students taking part in both indoor and outdoor activities throughout the year. The curriculum is designed to ensure progression across the year groups, with each year group focusing on specific sports and skills.
In Year 4, students participate in swimming lessons at a local swim school from Spring 2. We also support children in year 5 who need extra support in swimming to attend again if they did not meet national curriculum standard. Alongside this, we work with Rotherham United Football Club who delivery weekly PE lessons alongside our teachers for children in year 1-6. They also provide a lunch time club for specific groups including SEND and pupil premium.
Through our P.E. curriculum, students also gain an understanding of basic rules, the knowledge behind various skills, and the importance of good sporting behavior, all while experiencing positive competition.
